Greetings and Blessings!
When I stop to think what so many of us have lost or fought through the last 2 years, it can be overwhelming. This season has brought struggles, pain and disappointment. It has been difficult as we’ve battled with disease, separation, depression, loss, and fear of the unknown. Rarely has our world been more divided or our future more uncertain. That being said, it’s quite possible many have struggled for years with unmet expectations, unexpected loss, and the pain associated with them. The truth of the matter is no one and no season is exempt. Life brings struggle and disappointment to everyone and every season.
For our family, this season of our lives has been a fog. In many respects it’s been like a bad dream from which you keep hoping to wake up. I’ve hesitated to share too many of my thoughts during this season as I don’t want to pull others into the deluge of pain and disappointment we’ve experienced as we’ve walked through the loss of our daughter and the many other changes in our lives that came in 2020.
However, we’ve received many notes and messages from people who have been encouraged by our journey. Because of that, I have decided to share our story as it unfolds through the book Shattered: Finding Hope and Purpose in the Midst of Disappointment.
My hope is that it’s not just an encouragement, but a place where joy and renewed purpose can be developed. Not all of my thoughts and conclusions will be accurate as they’re still raw and incomplete. Many things may get edited later and corrected; some might just go uncorrected because I don’t have any other answers. We’re still seeking and learning to be okay with those things that may remain mysteries this side of eternity.
I’ve cried a lot while writing this book. It’s been both painful and healing. I believe both are necessary to bring us through the valley. I hope, as you read through the pages I have written, you will allow yourself to experience pain and healing as well. And in the process, may you also find the fire that burns so hot for you in Jesus Christ.
I’m aware that some may choose to walk past this book because they feel they’ve never experienced the level of grief that would warrant reading it. If that’s you, please reconsider. This book is not solely written for those who have lost a loved one, but attempts to pull back the curtain on disappointments and the losses that result from them, at every level.
My prayer is that Shattered will challenge your perceptions about disappointment and radically change your relationship with our heavenly Father. Whether you’ve walked through the depths of darkness and grief or you’ve just been “rattled” by life’s constant disappointments, there is something for you within it’s pages. A new perspective and a fresh walk with God awaits.
